Adults and Children with Learning and Developmental Disabilities, Inc. (ACLD) is a leading not- for-profit agency on Long Island for the passed 49 years and serves the needs of nearly 3,000 children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families. On Thursday, April 6, 2006, ACLD's Children's Services Program will celebrate its 20-year Anniversary at the Bayview House at Captain Bill's Restaurant in Bay Shore, New York. ACLD is proud to honor the Great South Bay YMCA with the Outstanding Community Partner Award as well as Tillene and Walter Pinsker with the Children's Services Founders Award. Jerry and Debra Kramer will also be recognized for "Building our Children a Home at the Kramer Learning Center."
ACLD's Children's Services Program provides comprehensive diagnostic, educational and therapeutic services for more than 250 young children from 3 to 5 years of age with physical and developmental disabilities. Founded in 1986, our Early Childhood Program offers a developmentally appropriate play-based environment for all children, with and without special needs.Our philosophy emphasizes the central role of families.The Program has been designated as a Model Program by PROJECT INTEGRATE, a federally funded outreach program affiliated with the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We have affiliations with key teaching centers and serve as a training site for graduate and undergraduate students in all disciplines.
